Published in June 2022, the second edition of this popular textbook has been updated and improved, featuring a modern, user-friendly design with high-quality images and a clear layout.

The audio tracks for the listening exercises can be downloaded for free from the course website or easily accessed with a smartphone or tablet by scanning the QR codes inside the book.

Additional supporting materials are provided for free online, including:

  • a downloadable workbook, full of tasks to practise the vocabulary and grammar rules covered in the lessons;
  • presentations to introduce new vocabulary.

This beginner's course, comprising 30 academic hours, is specially designed for an English-speaking audience and is based on a communicative approach to language teaching with wide use of digital materials, educational games and songs.

The lessons are enriched with interesting comparisons of Russian and British culture, customs and mentality. All language material is thematically structured and covers the situations, vocabulary and grammar required for basic conversations on everyday topics and to prepare students for a successful and enjoyable first trip to Russia.

Topics include: greetings, talking about yourself and your family, jobs, accommodation, the time, directions, eating out, health, the weather, shopping, transport.


Key features of each unit:

  • Introductory texts (in English) about Russian daily life to help students better understand Russian society;
  • The presentation of key vocabulary and grammar points, followed by topic-based dialogues to explore these aspects in context;
  • Multiple examples and pictures to aid understanding, followed by simple exercise drills to practise the language and consolidate learning;
  • A list of new words at the end of each unit, for quick and easy reference; 
  • Audio-recordings to aid students' pronunciation and help develop their listening skills.

Also included in the textbook:

  • A cumulative Russian-English dictionary at the back of the book.
  • A grammar summary which recaps all the grammatical structures covered in the course.
  • Answers to all the exercises, so that students can work independently.
  • Instructions for downloading the additional online resources including the workbook, audio tracks, and vocabulary presentations.
