This manual is designed for the students, who have achieved the First Certificate level according to the TORFL (B1 of the Common European Framework), and generally for those, who are interested in traditions and customs of Russia and Russian holidays.
The reader contains a set of texts about the history of the Russian holidays, the calendar reforms, the holiday ceremonies and traditions, the first Soviet holidays as well as the modern Russian holidays. After each text there are exercises to enhance the general understanding of the material covered, followed by tests with questions. The students will not only read texts but also learn more about the Russian grammar and the word formation in the Russian language. At the end of the reader there is an additional material to read and a list of the most important modern Russian holidays.
