Ideally suited for young children (4-12 years) learning a foreign language for the first time, the "Vocabulary Builder" CD-Rom provides a series of colourful flashcards to learn key items of vocabulary. These vary from single words to short phrases. By clicking on the image, you can hear the word(s) pronounced and see the word(s) written down. Learners can also select to record their own voice and play back each recording in their own "cinema".
In addition there are a series of games, graded into three levels of difficulty: easy, medium and difficult to test the vocabulary learnt. There are three types of game: "Find the card" where you select the correct picture on hearing the word or phrase pronounced; "Match the pairs" where you match the picture with the written word and "Beat the clock" - the same as the "Find the card" game only this time against the clock!.
A simple scoring system is integrated into the games allowing learners to aim towards a bronze, silver or gold award which can be printed out as a record of achievement. Help is available throughout by clicking on the tiger icon and can be accessed in over 40 languages.
Minimum system requirements: For PC users - Windows 95/98/NT/2000/ME/XP; VGA display (256 colours); soundcard; 486 processor; 16MB free RAM memory; 64MB RAM; 4x CD-Rom drive or DVD-Rom drive; microphone (recommended). For MAC users - System 7.5.5 or above; G3 or G4 processor (e.g. DVD iMac); Quicktime 4.1 or above; 256 colour display; 16MB free memory (virtual memory off); 4x CD-Rom drive or DVD-Rom drive; Mac compatible microphone (recommended).
