1917. The Revolution That Has Not Been Stopped. A Hundred Years in a Hundred Fragments.
This book includes conversations between a political scientist Gleb Pavlovsky and a prominent historian and philosopher Mikhail Gefter (1918-1995), and covers the politics and metaphysics of the Revolution of 1917. In contrast to other great revolutions, the Russian one has not been stopped. It didn't have a "thermidor", and according to the historian Gefter, the revolution still continues.
As a participant of the 20th century events, Gefter considered himself as the Soviet "meta-generation". He interpreted the history of the Russian state body as global by its origin. Therefore there is a mystery of madness of the tsar Ivan the Terrible and the tyrannicides of "Narodnaya Volya" (The People's Will), of the collapse of the revolutionary intellectuals and the counter-revolutionist Petr Stolypin. This is a source of charisma and political technologies of Vladimir Ulyanov (Lenin). The communist revolution started in the Silver Age Petrograd and gave birth to the wave of the world consequences - from decolonisation to Hitler and from the anti-fascist Europe formation to the People's Republic of China (PRC) of Mao Zedong. The Soviet Union dissolution didn't stop the revolution either. According to Mikhail Gefter, the mystery of the unstopped revolution provides the reasons for the Russian nation-state project collapse in 1990-s and even the symptoms of fascisation.
The author of the book is grateful to the Institut fur die Wissenschaften vom Menschen in Vienna for the thrilling atmosphere of accurate thinking and to the research fellow IWM Ivan Krastev for the insightful discussion of this book's ideas.
